SwearingJar LLC ("we," "our," or "us") operates the Swear Jar mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address - Used for account authentication and communication
- Display name - Shown to other users in Circles (accountability groups)
- Profile photo - Optional, displayed in your profile and Circles
Audio Recordings
The App records audio when you start a recording session to detect keywords you've defined. Important information about audio handling:
- Audio is processed to convert speech to text (transcription)
- Audio files are automatically deleted after transcription is complete
- We do not store or retain your audio recordings
- Only detected keywords and surrounding context (approximately 50 characters) are saved
Session Data
For each recording session, we store:
- Session start and end times
- Duration of the recording
- Detected keywords with brief surrounding context
- Virtual charge amounts based on your keyword settings
Keywords and Goals
We store the custom keywords you create, including:
- Word or phrase
- Category (profanity, filler words, negative language)
- Virtual charge amount
- Frequency goals you set for each category
Circles (Accountability Groups)
If you join or create Circles, we store:
- Circle membership information
- Your privacy settings (what you choose to share)
- Progress data you opt to share with circle members
Device Information
We collect push notification tokens to send you notifications about:
- Session completions
- Daily and weekly summaries
- Streak reminders
- Achievement unlocks
2. How We Process Your Audio
We offer multiple transcription options to give you control over how your audio is processed:

3. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services:
Firebase (Google)
- Authentication: Secure account sign-in
- Cloud Firestore: Database for user data, keywords, and sessions
- Cloud Storage: Temporary audio file storage during processing
- Cloud Messaging: Push notifications

4. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and maintain the App's functionality
- Process audio recordings to detect keywords
- Track your progress toward your goals
- Enable Circles features (with your consent)
- Send notifications you've opted into
- Improve the App and fix bugs
- Respond to support requests
5. Information Sharing
With Circle Members
If you join Circles, you control what information is shared through privacy settings:
- You choose which categories to share
- You choose whether to show actual keywords or just counts
- By default, nothing is shared until you enable it
With Third Parties
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with:
- Service providers necessary to operate the App (Firebase, transcription services)
- Law enforcement if required by law
6. Data Retention
- Audio files: Deleted immediately after transcription
- Session data: Retained while your account is active
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
7. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your data (contact us for assistance)
- Opt out of push notifications at any time

8. Data Security
We implement appropriate security measures including:
- Encryption of data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
- Secure authentication through Firebase

The App is not intended for users under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
10. International Data Transfers
Your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States where our service providers are located. By using the App, you consent to this transfer.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by:
- Posting the new Privacy Policy in the App
- Updating the "Effective Date" at the top
- Sending a notification for significant changes
